This class will focus
on learning how to use a GPS unit to collect map data and how to contribute
this map data back to OpenStreetMap. OpenStreetMap is a world wide open
source, community created map that anyone can use, edit and contribute
to. Students will learn the basics of how to use a GPS unit and how
to collect map data. They will be allowed to head out and map the local
area, capturing whatever map features or points of interest they want
on foot, bike or by car. Next the students will learn how to upload
and edit their map data in OpenStreetMap.org. Lastly, students will
learn how to use the map data in fun, unique ways.

Students are encouraged to bring a laptop if they own one. No other supplies are needed.
This is a free class!
I am a community ambassador for OpenStreetMap.org, and work to engage new mappers by hosting events throughout the Bay Area. I am also working on a curriculum project that introduces OSM to university courses in GIS, geography, history and much more.
